Morro Day 15 (18-1-09)

Armadale have crunched
Thornlie in the 15th annual Phil Morrison Memorial Match after
Thornlie put Armadale into bat. Armadale got off to a flyer thanks
to Jeff Petrie (26) and Matt McClure (17), but Rhys Jones stole the
show with a super 40. Matt Williams (29) and Davey Thomason (23)
also got amongst the runs with all batsmen making their runs very
quickly. Armadale ended up all out for an impressive 193 off their
20 overs. In reply some fantastic bowling at the start by Mark
Ladhams (1-20 off 4) and Captain Stacey Barrett (1 for 8 off 2 overs)
together with some fantastic fielding put Thornlie right on the back
foot to be 1-35 after 7 overs and they were never able to recover,
eventually finishing on 6-133.
In the legends Thornlie
batted first and took advantage of the short boundaries and depleted
Armadale line up to make 7-227. In reply Armadale managed 149. The
only scores recorded were that Thornlie hit 19 sixes versus
Armadale’s 10, while Phil Rigg and Bert Facey both scored golden
ducks.
It
was a fantastic day supported by both clubs, thanks to all who
attended.

PHIL MORRISON
MEMORIAL CRICKET MATCH 2005 [11th Year] It
has been over 10 years now since the tragic
death of Phillip Morrison. This year will mark the 11th occurrence of
the Phil Morrison Memorial Cricket Match between Armadale and Thornlie
Cricket Clubs. There are 53 players who have participated in these
matches in honour of Phil, representing the Armadale Cricket Club since
the first game held in 1994. Past players, Roger Gerny and Geoff
Davey will be travelling over to WA from Victoria for the match, and it
is hoped that as many players and supporters as possible can make the
effort to attend the matches on Sunday 23rd January at Gwynne Park. There will be two games of cricket played on
the day. The Phillip Morrison Memorial Cricket Match will be played
between the best team that both Armadale & Thornlie clubs are able to
select from their 2004/05 registered players. The game will commence at
1.00pm and is a 40 overs game. The ”Legends” game; for the Pat & Laurie
Morris Trophy has been arranged to be played alongside the main match
and will be played between a team of past players from each club. This
game will commence at 1.30pm and be played over 30 overs per side. After the completion of the games, all are
invited to enjoy the hospitality of the Armadale Cricket Club. Meals
will be available. The club is looking forward to a great weekend, in
memory of Phil Morrison.
